George Green
Died on 4th November 1875
Police Sergeant Green was assisting in keeping order as a funeral cortege passed Great Clowes Street, Salford.
A horse drawn milk cart suddenly set off without its owner, and Sergeant Green ran in front of the runaway horse to stop it knocking down the mourners.
Unfortunately he was knocked down by the horse, and sustained fatal head injuries when the cart wheel passed over his head.
He was 37.
