Edward Carter
Died on 5th March 1904
Constable Carter was on duty in Scholes, Wigan,
on 27th February 1904, when he attempted to stop a runaway horse and van by grabbing the bridle.
He lost his footing on the snowy road surface and was hit in the chest by the shaft of the van.
He fell backwards onto the road, hitting his head and causing injuries from which he later died.
He was 41.
